Paint Over Spray

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
I have a customer that ran over a aerosol can of white paint. The color of her car is burgundy and the over spray is every where on the side of the car. If you use a finger nail you can remove it, so its still fresh.
I wondering what some of you would suggest to remove it. I was think about lacquer thinner, or a bug block.
I will be doing this one tomorrow and the car will be in a garage until then.

Thanks

you could do that (thinner) then just follow up with clay. I usually just use clay on dried overspray

If the aerosol can of paint is enamel then regular mineral spirits paint thinner might remove it, however if it doesn't then I would not be afraid of trying lacquer thinner, be careful though on some of the areas that might not be Base Coat/Clear Coat. You will definitely need to rewax the car afterwards.
Bummer!

There is way to much paint for clay I will have som pics later to post (Friday) I'm picking it up this morning. I may end up using compound by hand

Use clay to remove the overspray. I just detailed a total of 21 cars with overspray. I made over $2,000 dollars. It's very easy

I would use the thinner or even prep solvent to remove it.. Just how it comes off with your nail sounds like the quickest way to get it done.. You will definatly need to rewax afterwards... Good luck!!!

OK here are the before and after pics of the truck. This was one of the most challenging jobs that I have ever done. The attack was to use the least aggressive to start then go ballistic if I had to.

I started with the rotary, wool pad and heavy cut compound that did nothing, clay was of no use. Got the lacquer thinner out and that worked well. I took two buckets of soapy water one for rinsing the thinner and the other to wash off the area I was working. I worked a 12x12 inch area all the way down the car just on the painted areas. Then used it on the rubber style trim in a 3 inch area washing off and rinsing after each application. Compound on the rubber window trim, and a razor blade on the windows. I then polished with a rotary using a edge cutting pad. Followed with PB P-w-C, PB EX and finished with carnauba paste wax.
I blew the cocks off this customer as well as myself.

I just looked at what I said and sorry I meant........SOCKS!!!!

Wow ... that is one nasty mess!!!!!

How long did it take you to do that? And what did you charghe the customer for that? Did it come off fairly easily?

Thanks all there was a point that I thought that I was in over my head, but I worked very slow and looked for the least agressive product. The paint can that she ran over was striping paint used for the lines in the raod, that is some nasty crap. The thinner took the paint off with ease, but it also, made the clear coat real dull looking almost like wet sanding. The polish brought back to finish with the rotary.
The whole car took 6 hours and I charged her $400.00 this was a lot of work and I knew there was no body in this area that could have done what I did for lower price.
