Hi guys, can anyone help with a way of removing poly urethane paint overspray from textured plastic bumpers and trim. have removed from metal panels using a clay rub. Vehicle is a brand new renault scenic 4wd. I fear any solvent based product may discolour the plastic. HELP!!!!

I hope someone gives you an answer soon cause I am curious too.
Poly urethane can be tough to remove.
I hope someone has the answer

You can try some naphtha on the unpainted textured plastic. WD-40 might also take it off. If these don't work, some reducer or lacquer thinner might also do the trick. These two might discolor or soften the plastic but they should not damage the factory painted parts -- test in a inconspicuous area first. In some areas Prep-Solv is still sold and it falls into the reducer/thinner category -- test first. Auto Magic's "Bumper Magic" will in most cases fix the discoloration.

Back before the days of clay-bar, I successfully removed 90% of the damage left upon an owner of a connivence stores vehicle who didn't heed the warning from a painting contractor of a roller coaster in Buena Park, California. This was a Blue catalyzed urethane enamel on a Black Ford Escort GT. It took two days of serious buffing after a thorough bath in prep-solv and a very meticulous hand with a razor blade in some spots. Much of the trim had to be replaced and/or re-painted, for it just would not come off.

Funny was what the painter suggested I use to remove it... MEK. :lmfao I would not recommend anyone try MEK for it will remove all the paint.

Insurance jobs are fun, and they pay quite well!! ;) Good luck!!

thanks for the advice, i will try some of your suggestions. I have tried clay rub on the trim but not successful due to textured finish. Thanks again for your prompt replies and advice.:bye :
