Does the smell help how well it works?

Hello all! I'll bet you thought I had left you, didn'tca? I wouldn't do that. :) I do have a new question that I want to ask you. I've been thinking about it and i'm curious. Does the smell of the product really help or not? Like, does the fact that something smells like cough syrup help it clean better than the product that smells like bananas? I would think the cough syrup smell would be better. Who ever heard of bananas ever fixing anything? i was just wondering because we put such stock in what something smels like that I wonder if it helped. Does leather conditioner that smells like leather work better than one that smells like stagnant swamp water? Interesting questions... Does anyone have an answer? I am trying to pick a wax right now and I was wondering if Pina Colada would work better or worse than Vanilla.
 
I just realized that I need to make a smiley of a guy scratching his head trying to comprehend something. The more it thinks the more frustrated he gets until finally his head explodes. I think that would be appropriate here. :lmfao

I don't think smell really has anything to do with how effective the product is. Unless the product smells like alcohol and you are using it as a cleaner, then I can't see how it matters. Most smells are just there to mask the chemical odor that most detailing products would smell like. Would Souveran be as popular if it smelled like melted crayons? Maybe.... it didn't hurt S100 sales at all.
 
Maybe if it smells better you are more inclined to want to work with it longer and therefore a better end result? Otherwise, no.
 
Yeah, I doubt the smell really matters. I wouldn't necessarily pick a product specifically for the smell. Some of the best things I've used don't really smell that great. I expect stuff like wheel cleaner and engine degreaser to not smell like coconuts or something. I imagine that I wouldn't mind if they did smell better, but I use what works regardless of the smell. Sometimes the smell is the deciding factor on products that are so similar in every other way, but not that often. Intersting thought process though. I can see how you would maybe come to that conclusion. However, for a guy who washes his cars with bleach, I don't really see where this concern for smells came from. :lol
 
I guess I can see that...... I would still like to think that the smell does something more. Maybe we should be looking for products that don't smell good. I find that when I use a really fruity wax that I end up having bugs all over my car the rest of the day. If the wax didn't smell so good then mabye the bugs would leave me alone.

And I don't wash my car with bleach anymore. After I got the marks off the paint from the peanut butter incident I decided not to use household chemicals on my paint without asking you guys first. I've had some thoughts, but I figured it wasn't always a good idea to act without thinking first.
 
Smells are important, yes. Specially for the interior. I use Pinnacles Vinyl treatment and Leather conditioner for their smell only, I don't even know if they are good or not (I suppose they are).
 
I USE SOME NASTY ACID ALUMINUM BRIGHTENER and it smells like deadly acid. it is deadly and it will tear up some stuff in a hurry if misused ..so im glad it doesnt smell real nice i wouldnt respect the stuff
 
Not necessarily on the same thought process, but I read that Wolfgang changed the smell of their QD because it was adversely affecting its performance. In a case like this, it would seem smell can help/harm how something works.

I think company should put smell in their product description, I wouldn't want my car to smell of bananas and then finding monkeys all over it:LOLOL .

I find this to be true. If the wax has too much of a chemical smell like Pro's Satin Creme Wax, it gives me a headache so I tend not to work it as much as I would another wax. I also tend to lean close to the car's finish to see the haze or if I missed any wax.

The better the wax smells, the better my car turns out.

They changed their smell? What did they do..? Go from Brut to Cool Water? :lol That stuff smells like old man aftershave. I really hope they changed those smells to something a little tamer. I actually sort of got used to it, but it isn't really what I would call "pleasant" to smell.

I don't think it's a case of will the smell help/harm a product, it's more the case of will the chemicals(perfume?!) added affect the wax/sealant/final product , I found the short article bout minor adjustment in wolfgang's QD here
 
I think they changed it to "apples". Just the QD, though, from what I've read. WG still has the same "signature scent" on its other stuff. WG was sending out free replacements to those who tried the sampler kits. I didn't get the new one, as I figured I got a great deal with the kit, no need to add more cost to WG.

When did you get your kit?you might already have the Wolfgang QD version 2.0 maybe
 
Nope. Mine was one of the last "first version tester kits." It smells like the cologne. There was supposed to be some sort of issue with the scent adversely affecting the gloss enhancers. I found the QD to work pretty well (on metallic wild strawberry paint). If the new stuff works better, its got to be good stuff!
 
WOW!! You mean they actually improved on a perfect product?? That is incredible. I'm going to have to get me some. I want one of each of the whole Wolfgang line on my shelf. I don't care if it is Fuzzy boy's middle name or not. That stuff rocks!! :headbang lol
 
Well I'll go against the grain and say yes, smell does make a difference. I refuse to use 303 Aerospace in an interior because I think it smells foul (yea yea I know, that is the smell of the super duper sun screen at work). Great product, foul smell. So for me it doesn't work.

Lexol....great product, foul smell....I won't use it. Doesn't work too well for me.

P.S. I'm on a roll tonight. Making up for a lot of lost time!
