Can you make your own Wax?

Having the internet in front of us we have virtually endless posiblititys on the different products we can purchase. I was thinking about it this morning and said WHAT IF!

What if I could by my own special blend Carnuba wax. Now granted its probably entirely too expensive for a big company to offer larger percentages of Carnuba in their wax due to its cost. But what if I wanted to make a batch of my own special blend wax

Has anyone ever tried this ...perhaps even mixing a few different waxes together to see what the end product is?

I've played with it. ;) Believe it or not there is more to a wax than just carnauba. 100% pure carnauba would make a pretty crappy wax. In its pure form its hard as a rock. You have to mix in a ton of other stuff to even make it usable. Its not something I would suggest trying to cook up in your kitchen unless you are a chemist and have experience making products like that.

I've mixed stuff like Souveran and P21S together to see if I could make a 'super wax'. What I found was that either one of them actually looked better all by itself than it did blended up with the other. Waxes are all about proportions. Its like taking the best cheese burger and throwing it in a blender with the best hot dog. What comes out is not going to be the best of anything. Ya see what I'm saying?

I understand what your saying!

I thought it would be nice to have that "Special Blend" that even though it may cost you a few bucks more...The end result is makes it worth it.

I was actually looking on line for "AUTO WAX RECIPES" and beleive it or not I did find some stuff. However I guess the Risk you take in the end is now that it cost me $25.00 for all of these products and ive made my 20 gallons of "Special Blend" how well does it work? And if it doesn't work ... that was $25.00 i could have used buying some new detailing products!

Probably the best and least expensive recipe is to experiment with different products like many hear already do. One application of a certain product and then 24 hours later apply a different product ... Keep experimenting until you achieve the look you are after ... This process is expensive enough for me!
I figure too ... let the chemists do what they do best and I will do what I do best ... buy and consume their products!

I want to start my own company and make a car wax called "Ear Wax" tm. :lol

then I can have my own infomercial -

"Listen to what people are saying about ear wax.."

Person #1 "HUH?"
Person #2 "WHAAAT?"
Person #3 "SPEAK UP"
Person #4 "WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT A BEER TAX?"

;)

Well im glad I have made a few people laugh today with my crazy thoughts. However after searching google for a bit apperetly my Thoughts are not so crazy. There are a few recipes out there (you really have to dig to find them. But this is one I came accross. I don't know how well it works but hey Ill try anything once.

Granted this hasn't gone through the rigorus testing that chemists go through. But Sometimes simple is better. Everyone has said that the larger amounts of Carnuba in the wax typicly enhances the depth in the look of the paint.

essentially im not looking for something made to protect the car for years to come but it would be nice to have something that I could use the day before a big car show to make the paint look amazing.

Homemade Car Wax

I have a great recipe for homemade car wax. It can be used on just about any vehicle you want to protect and add shine to.

HOMEMADE CAR WAX

1 c carnauba wax OR 1 c coconut oil
1 c beeswax
1/4 c olive oil
Blend ingredients, then slowly melt them and pour mixture into a tin or a short jar. Use as any other paste wax is used.

The word is that Steve cooks his in the back of his van and that the anti-terrorist police are watching him. Probably just a rumor.

 Jim spreading rumors again:nono

only the FBI is watching and Mother's and Sal and Barry, etc..:lmfao

seriously be aware that PD's are used in the process and that you could do some serious damage to yourself and your home...

Kaboooooooooooom :lol :rofl:brick

It was worth a stab....I figured that there are a lot of garbage that is added to the different waxes available to us. Like preservitives and such.

I figured having a larger amount of carnuba and les preservitives would make for a better high gloss wax.

i guess I thought wrong

If that is true then do some research and buy professionaly made waxes that you can test. Find out what the carnauba content is on each one of them and run some tests. That would answer your question without the risk of blowing up your house. I think a meth lab would be more profitable and less risky anyway. :lol

As for blowing up my house. I have a pretty big camping stove so I think this might be an experiment for outside (its probably a little bit safer)

As for the meth lab idea. Yes it would probably be a lot more profitable but the possible consiquences are what bothers me.

My Jail cell would probably be the only one with brightly polished bars! And a nice coat of wax!

you also might want to try the Mr. Clean look :lmfao as it flashes up there might not be much hair left to salvage:rolling

Well, I guess that's just another way of being smooooooth with the ladies. We all know that its a mullet that is the true chick bait. :naughty

I remember an old old book back when I was a kid about cleaning hints (I think my mom was trying to tell me something).....The person who wrote the book swore by 1 cup of kerosene added to one gallon of water as a "waterless wash." Basically the writer said you dip in a cotton cloth in the mixture start from back to front and rinse in the bucket after every pass. She did this once a week and swore the finish was shiney and beaded like the car was waxed...

anyone ever hear of this?? !!

I havn't heard of it, but I have heard of Kerosene for degreasing - carbs and other engine parts.

I think Kerosene is made from Paraffin (or has Paraffin in it) wax, so it would make sense of the beading...

I just got a picture in my head of the movie Better off dead when The neighbors mother drank some of the Paint thinner and then lit up a cigarette! KaBoom lol
