Bayliner Detail

Good grief...im assuming that took you all of one day!

I hope you were hansomely compensated for your efforts :D

Thank God the owner washed it for me....otherwise he was looking at a bill close to $500.

It still took the bulk of the day, but the compensation was well worth it!

Thanks for the kind words y'all!

He powerwashed and got a lot of the normal gunk off which cuts quite a bit of time for me. I detailed it from there, skipping the secondary cabin on request. I normally would have charged around $350, but since I detailed his Corvette, WaveRunner, and Harley the week before, it was only $250. (I've made over $1000 from him alone)

Here is where cost of living really reveals itself. Here in NJ you could have easily charged $400 and the customer would have been grateful. Lookin good though. What do you use for the plastic windows? I think the stuff I have is megs? Been a while since I used it...

If I were to fully detail the boat from start to finish, my marine rate ranges from $15-20 per foot. This one was a bit different, as he had washed it, and wanted to "do something with the hull" himself. I found out he is having an additional clearcoat applied.

I basically took over from the rails (middle) on up. Look on the "Not bad for White" picture and see the difference--just in case, the top half is mine!

M23--As for those windows, the boat simply hasn't been used enough to warrant a polish on them---for the most part, they were clear. I simply washed them with S&W. Typically I would have used Meg's Plastx or Poorboy's Pro Polish.

:rolling

Not really, we're about 25 miles North of Downtown Atlanta---considered suburban ATL.

I could see how the costs could be different in the weather---I was in shorts for the first time this year while detailing that thing.

M23Accord, you are right about the cost of living in NJ compared to other locations. For example, here's a sample of my pricing for most complete boat detailings;

17’ to 20’……...$ 19 per ft
21’ to 24’……...$ 21 per ft
25’ to 28’……...$ 23 per ft

The total cost to completely detail a 28 ft 2001 Bayliner would be more like $23 x 28 ft = $644 here in NJ. Also, I would allow about 14 hours to complete the job. That's $46 per hour based on $644 divided by 14 hours.

When you factor in the overall higher costs to operate a detailing business here in NJ, I guess everything is relative to where you are located.

57chevy,

No Heli yet on my books, but don't even know how I would price that :dunno
The boat really blew him away, as he did the main panels and I did everything above that. You could really tell a difference in depth and shine on my portion, and that was in the shade. I'd like to take a look at it in the sun to really see the difference.

I appreciate the kind words!

Nick, what did you use on the vynal uphostery?? I've been boating all my life and also worked at a large boat dealership in dallas. I think the only way to go is soap and water to clean and then 303 protectant. Everything else gets nasty in the sun and water.

That Adam's VRT that you see in the picture is among my favorites. It is really creamy, so it really penetrates the tough vinyl that boats typically use. They pride themselves on this product as it has so many UV protectors in it, and best of all, it is water based!

I've heard good things about 303, but I've been happy with VRT and Natural Look thus far.

Happy boating season!
