Rotary help

I've gone through paint ONCE! It was on an old volvo that had single stage paint. It had a hard body line on it and i figured i needed to get in the crack real well. I got the crack looking beautifull with just a few passes but the line got burnt. Lucky for my i just layed down some new paint with a bush toucher sanded and rebuffed. Gotta love single stage. If it had been base/clear i would have been screwed.

That's the one. I think that is Rod Kraft, the eastern or mid-atlantic Meguiars rep. Mike Phillips says he does a great job at those seminars.

Wish it were a little closer. That has to be at least a 3 hour drive from Sussex County. I'd probably have to stay at a hotel the night before to be there at 8:30 am. I'm not too keen on getting up at 4:30 am then on the road by 5:00 am for detailing stuff (now if it were a fishing trip that would be different! ). I've got an email out to Rod Kraft asking if there will be seminars in northern or central, NJ.

I buffed out a 1983 Mercedes 240 D in the last year that had a single stage paint that seemed to be 1/2 inch thick:D . The car came out incredible after using Meg's DACP with the rotary and a yellow cutting pad. This older paint was so easy to work with and almost every scratch came out with relative ease. The DACP polished her up to a beautiful shine in not a lot of time. I was concerned about grinding through but like I stated before the paint seemed so thick !!!

Sometiems I tell myself the pictures are forgiving, because the cars look so damned good in them that I think it has to be impossible.

Could somone post there "tips and tricks" for rotory beginners? Even though we have said the word of caution here and said how to start. I think it would be worthwhile to give some actual advice as to technique. I'd post but I'm felling lazy today.

Hey, that dealergoodies seminar is only about two hours away from me. Now that is a good idea. I slip up to Carlisle for carshows occasionally. Only bad part is I can't go until the November class (I'm in a military funded/run graduate program this year). I can wait and actually that is my next scheduled timeframe for a full detail of my vehicles (maintenance up to that point).

Good call Natty.

The dealergoodies pictures from the Event looked pretty nice and im sure its only the best of the Detailer Line of products and the best tips and tricks on rotary usage.

I posted some in the Begining you also gave some good tips. But really the Meg's class is helpfull and the video. Also Properautocare's tips are great.

Your the man ... I think this one is on you ...

I would gladly write up a instructional type report, but with the way I operate I would not finish until 2010. Plus, there are so many detailers/bodyshop personnel out there with much more to offer and to share than my limited experience... Lets call them to task...

If you have a specific question about rotary usage I'll give my best answer I can... PM me.

So will anyone post the rotory tips for the beginners?

I thought about it but as a relative newcomer to the rotary (only about 8 months now) I really don't think I'm qualified to do so. I'm still honing my rotary skills and technique.

I think you Koop, with your body shop experience, Poorboy, Boss_429 and of course Anthony Orosco (he's about due for a cameo appearance) would be my picks to write up a rotary "how to". Did you ever think that just by having a small write up on rotary techniques could possibly lead someone to say "hey, that is easy", then go out get a rotary and proceed to wreak havoc on their vehicle's finish. Sort of a false sense of security.

It might but the rotary isnt that hard to use but I guess it could make people to confident of there skills and wreck there cars let alone others.
