Cloudy film on paint

My son being helpful decided to take acetone to remove the grime, wax and buildup on my Ford Explorer.

I am going to put 2 decorative designs on the sides. I now have a film on the entire body that just will not come off. I am afraid to install and then try and wax due to the film. Any suggestions to clear the finish??

You are going to need to polish the paint I dont think Acetone is good for your paint and it shouldent be used. To remove wax use Dawn wash or APC+ Ratio or Klasse AIO to get off old wax etc...

Try some of the polishs at www.premiumautocare.com Poorboys has a nice line of stuff.

Thanks FrOzen. I had purchased 3M basic prep to clean the vehicle and it was setting next to the acetone. Guess his heart was in the right place but mind was not.

I find the Basic Prep will not take out the film so I will try polishing! Again Thanks!

Geeeeeeezzzz! Keep acetone off the paint!! This stuff will destroy the paint!!! Use something like Pro Wax's Prep-Sol or 3M Adhesive and Wax Remover.

Hopefully the damage that has been done is not permenant. After you polish the area, re-wash and see what happens. Does the film come back or is it still gone?

Yep, I suspect there is more damage there than pursuit realizes!
 
same here never use acetone on automotive finish never use any type of paint thinner or primer on automotive paints there is other safer and natrual ways of doing it without harm.
 
Might consider myself fortunate. He only did one door and I am happy to announce the 3 M product did remove the film and there appears to be no damage!

Will not wax till I install the graphix and it has had a time to set up. Appreciate all the help!
